Code of conduct

Everyone should be able to turn up, ask a beginner question and go home having learned something. This page sets out what that requires of all of us.

The short version

Be decent to each other. Assume good faith. Leave people better off than you found them.

Expected behaviour

• Be respectful and considerate in talks, questions, chat and hallway conversation.
• Remember that experience levels vary enormously. There are no stupid questions at this meetup.
• Give feedback on ideas and code, not on people.
• Respect the venue, its staff and its rules.
• Ask before photographing or recording someone, and respect a "no".

Unacceptable behaviour

• Harassment or discrimination based on gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, neurotype, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, age, religion, or experience level.
• Sexual language or imagery, and unwelcome sexual attention of any kind.
• Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
• Sustained disruption of talks or other events.
• Publishing others' private information without explicit permission.
• Recruiting or selling to attendees who have not invited it.

Reporting

If you experience or witness anything that breaks this code — or anything that just feels off — tell an organiser. We are the people wearing the group's badge, and we would much rather hear about something small than find out later it became something large.

If you would rather not raise it on the night, you canmessage us on LinkedIn. Reports go only to the organiser team, and we will not share your identity with the person reported without your agreement.

What happens next

Organisers will listen, take the report seriously, and decide on a response. Depending on the severity that may be a quiet word, a request to stop, removal from the event, or a ban from future events. Where a venue's own policies apply, or where someone is in danger, we will involve venue staff or emergency services.

This code applies at our meetups and social events, and in any online space the group runs — Meetup comments, LinkedIn, chat and our YouTube channel included.
